About All Clad

All-Clad Metalcrafters, LLC is a cookware company based in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. The company sells its cookware, as well as All-Clad bonded ovenware, kitchen tools, and kitchen accessories, through department shops and specialty stores in the United States, Australia, Canada, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

History of All Clad

In 1967, metallurgist John Ulam created the company as a maker of bonded metals, including coinage for the United States Mint, avionics, and ballistics. The company played a key role in the transition to bonded metal coinage. The company's transition to cookware happened by chance, when Ulam developed a pan for his own use. To sell this cookware, All-Clad Metal crafters was founded in 1971. Two years later, Bloomingdale's purchased the brand for its luxury housewares category. All-Clad Metal crafters was purchased by Pittsburgh Annealing Box Co. in 1988, and then by the French multinational Groupe SEB in 2004. All-Clad cookware collaborated with television chef and personality Emeril Lagasse to create the "Emerilware" range of cookware in 2000. In 2014, All-Clad collaborated with Chef Thomas Keller to create the All-Clad TK, which is made of bonded aluminum and stainless steel with a copper core.

Patents issued in the United States

All-Clad was founded on a unique "roll bonding" process in which metals are sandwiched together and then moulded into a cooking pan. The company got its name from the cladding procedure, which is used not only on the bottom but also on the sides of each cooking vessel. The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has granted the corporation many patents.
